The National Unity Government (NUG) announced, on 14 August 2024, that it has established nearly 6,000 interim community-based schools in liberated and resistance-controlled areas since the February 2021 coup. In response to the educational disruptions caused by the junta's coup, the NUG has set up both traditional and online schools to ensure that students who lost access to formal education can continue their studies. NUG community-based schools are currently educating over 750,000 students and employ more than 60,000 teaching staff, according to the NUG Ministry of Education.
