Pastor of St Patrick’s Cathedral condemns service for Cecilia Gentili after she was celebrated as being ‘mother of all whores’

The Roman Catholic archdiocese of New York City has condemned a funeral service for the transgender activist Cecilia Gentili at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral after congregants cheered her for being celebrated as “the mother of all whores”.

The packed funeral – organisers reported 1,400 mourners – took place on Thursday, 10 days after the Argentinian-born Gentili, 52, died at her Brooklyn home.

Gentili was an activist and actor known for her advocacy on behalf of sex workers, as well as an atheist and author of Faltas: Letters to Everyone in My Hometown Who Isn’t My Rapist. Her cause of death has not been revealed.

The archdiocese condemned the funeral, saying some mourners behaved scandalously at the service, which featured a turnout closer in number to the midtown Manhattan cathedral’s jam-packed Easter mass than a normal Thursday, with many transgender congregants lavishly dressed for Gentili’s send-off.

Not nearly as scandalous as all the kids his employees have raped.

By employees, I mean priests. Who used their position of trust to groom kids.

    Priorities, amirite?

This should show everyone that the PR Pope is nothing but empty promises and hollow platitudes. He goes on tv and tells everyone that the church is now accepting, and that lgbt people are welcome, etc. But in action, they continue to be hateful, homophobic, bigots. And that was always the plan, say nice things, do the opposite. You think Catholics are hateful in America? Go to the third world and see how progressive and accepting Catholics are of others, they’re not, at all.

You think an entire org that’s thousands of years old, has immeasurable wealth, that is spread across the whole earth, is inherently conservative, has a distributed power structure and many internal schisms among its Billion followers, is going to turn on a dime because its nominal leader made some edicts of kindness towards the disenfranchised in the last few months?

The fact that you think that because everyone hasent fallen in line after the Pope said a few words means the Pope was secretly lying is nutty.

Ain’t no one, no matter how high the hat, gonna turn an org like the Catholic Church around overnight. JC themselves could roll down from on high and proclaim that “trans souls are the glorified of heaven” and there would still be bitter bitches like this pastor complaining about fantastic people.

You seem to have confused “massive authority” with “utter and total control of all aspects of an organization down to its lowest member, especially when that org is global, wealthy, spans millennia of history, has billions of people involved and is innately reactionary.”

Plenty of people have the former, the pope being one of them. No one on earth has the latter, no matter what they, or apprently you, claim.

If the Pope can’t even control or tell his own clergy what’s what, then pack up the whole fucking thing. If Catholics stopped pretending to be a religion and accepted that they’re a corporation, then none of this would matter

You make no sense at all. Catholic clergy aren’t robots that the Pope controls remotely, they are messy, thinking people with their own bias’s and demons and prejudice.

The fact that you think 1,000,000+ different people, even under a “unified” religious doctrine (that has some wide schisms active even today) would all instantly act in lockstep when their leader makes a new change in doctrine is just flat out wild. It just the weirdest and most unreasonable thing to be upset about, but here you are.

They do all seem to unify when it comes to defending pedos but not about what their own pope says lol

Are you 15? The pope is one guy in an organisation filled with centennial old politics. Nobody’s expecting the entire church to change overnight.

See I thought their religion was about god and the Pope is the representative of their god’s word. If that’s not the case, then what’s the fucking point of him or any of it? Clearly they’re a corporation then, if their own doctrine and leader doesn’t sway them
