Firstly, what happened with Apollo was awful after all the hard work that Christian put into it.

BUT he was/is terrible at acting in feedback from users. Consequently, the promised iPad app never appeared and there were bugs in Apollo that never got acknowledged let alone fixed. He didn’t use TestFlight properly so on three occasions there were show stopper releases that needed urgent fixes. The official Apollo forum was used for support but was often hostile to people who asked for help.

I don’t want to be too critical because Apollo was amazing, but all these things came from being a sole developer while also doing support and marketing. He needed to trust other people and get some help.

I’m also glad Christian isn’t making a Lemmy app. This enables other apps like Memmy and Mlem to gain traction and do it better. These aren’t solo developers. They are also OSS.

I agree. All the bugs I ran into plus the toxic community (how DARE you insult His Majesty with bug reports you f—ing peasant?!) drove me away.

Which is funny because his closing post says “we want to be nice people” hence the “rules”… but the constant abuse of anyone who dared to report bugs was blatantly allowed and seemingly encouraged. No lone developer can possibly catch all bugs. It’s just a fact of life.
