I’ve never had much trouble fixing screens and batteries on my Pixel, Nexus and Samsung phone. Take your time, watch the vidjas, use a heat gun and IPA (both types), all fine. The phone’s fucked, you might as well spend $50 if there’s a chance you’ll get another year or two out of it.
Ifixit has been a great resource, good on them for their sponsorship of R2R.
I used to fix phones back in the dumbphone days. Other than needing a special screwdriver, it was extremely straightforward as long as you were careful with the ribbon cables. I guess I don’t have anything to add, lol, I was just reminiscing.
I actually still have two of the tiny torx screwdrivers I used to use. They’re magic because they seem to fit about every tiny random device I’ve needed to disassemble and I’ve had them for 17 years without losing them.
When I changed out the spicy pillow in my tablet I scraped the silver colored coating off the back glass so you can see the inner guts.
I stopped giving a fuck after my first glued phone repair attempt. Until that point it was kind of fun and very rewarding, and the glued ones are just pure frustration. Big tech won, I don’t repair phones any more.
Framework needs to make a phone lol.
I’d rather see Fairphone expand.
