[Half Life 3 (HL3) doesn’t count as we already know that game is still a long way off from coming out. Like another 5 or more years.]
My relatively obscure and hopeless choice is Golden Sun 4
Before the release of DA veilguard, my answer would be Mass Effect 4. Now I’m not so sure.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto.
Black & White (with VR support).
Shattered Galaxy.
Crystalis.
Ooh I have another one! Steamland, the game of my childhood. RTS with trains. Would be very cool if it had a sequel.
Days Gone 2 (not gonna happen though).
My favorite game, I wish so as well! But yeah, not gonna happen, Bend studios is dismantled and it’s members moved on
Fatal Frame, also could use a remake of 1 and 3. 2 got the Wii rerelease. I just want ones with a good English Japanese accented dub ala Ghost of Tsushima
- Magic Carpet 3 - loved the feeling af flying and magic system. Always wondered why nobody made this Ingo a VR title hence solving the motion sickness problem by ‘standing’ on the magic carpet.
- Shadows of Mordor/War 3 - such a versatile gameplay, ever-changing throughout the game.
- Elder Scrolls 6 - if they don’t botch it.
I just want my hypnospace outlaw sequel. It was supposed to come out like a year ago and then never did.
Portal
Portal, please
Honestly every valve IP
Maybe not tf3 though, perhaps instead if it was a complete rewrite of tf2 and engine port that fixed all the jank
I wanted to see KOTOR 3 for years, but after seeing the writing in TOR and knowing Disney has bought the IP, I don’t expect it, and I wouldn’t be super excited if they actually make it.
SWTOR is as close as we are ever gonna get. Even if it’s not quite the same thing. At least the base game story wise is solid and free!
Just turn the chat off and pretend everyone running around is a NPC. 😂
F-Zero
Timesplitters. Can’t believe that series got left to rot
The first time splitters was one of my favorite games ever. I don’t remember why, but the second one I didn’t like nearly as much.
Elder scrolls. It’s been how long since the announcement of a coastline?
If it’s not out within the next 4 years, it will officially be the case that more time has passed between Elder Scrolls 5 and 6 than Elder Scrolls 1 through 5.
17 years between Arena and Skyrim compared to 13 years so far since Skyrim’s release in 2011 (and counting, almost up to 14 years if counting from calendar year alone).
When Skyrim came out, Bethesda promised free new Bethesda games for life to parents of kids born on 11/11/11 who named their child Dovahkiin. Young Dovahkiin is almost in high school now, and of the promised free games, their parents have earned a whopping:
- Fallout 4
- Fallout 76
- Starfield
Hope it was worth it.
Same goes to Witcher 1 -> 3 to 3 -> 4 and almost Gta 1 -> 5 to 5 -> 6, and many more franchises. Why is it happening?
Demon Souls - DS3 to DS3 - Elden Ring wasn’t too far off either.
Expectations have gotten higher. If they were still making 2d top down GTA games I don’t think it’d take very long to make a new one. I also don’t think many people would buy them.
Imagine how much more difficult GTA5 was to create compared to GTA1 or 2, it’s the same for every long lived franchise.
People are spoiled for choice so devs have to entice people with something new, making the “same” game with the same graphics every time is a hard sell in today’s market
AAA game development has gotten significantly more costly and time consuming, to the point where it is now basically unsustainable and headed for imminent collapse.
For the Dark Souls example, though, I think it’s important to note that FromSoft still produced Sekiro in between Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring, leaving only a 3-year gap for Elden Ring to come out. Not to mention that the time between Demon Souls to Elden Ring is still less than the time gap between Skyrim and Elder Scrolls 6, so it’s also orders of magnitude of difference.
And we got Armored Core soon after ER. FromSoft still puts out games reasonably often, while still being high quality. Some people may not like every game, but I don’t think anyone can say they’re putting out garbage like some other studios.
That announcement and the “development progress” follow up was fake to placate people getting angry over Failout 76. If they even started to working on it, it was 2023 the soonest.
Pretty sure they said they weren’t going to working it till after Starfield. So it is still in early dev right now.
Hi-fi rush. Fuco Micro$oft
I genuinely had heard plenty of praise that I checked it out more and really liked what I saw in gameplay. I was going to wait till it went on 25% off then pick it up. Then Xbox Game Studios had the brain dead idea to shut down the whole studio that made one of the best new IPs in recent years. After hearing about this, I decided right there that I wasn’t going to buy it ever.
That’s why “Fuck Micro$oft”. I bought it but didn’t see the news until a few weeks when I was checking about the game and if they were planning a sequel or what. It’s a great game IMO but the studio got shut down because Micro$oft fucking sucks
