Tbh the bigger instances need to bite the bullet and defederate from .ml. There are alternatives to all the good comms on .ml, they just aren’t as active. Defederating would move a lot of users onto the alternatives and get some control back from the terrible .ml mods and admins.

Banning people from multiple completely unrelated comms for something that happened in one comm is bullshit and they abuse the hell out of that. I generally try not to participate in any .ml comm because of that.

.ca is good as well, the admin is top tier and very transparent with the userbase. I’m quite happy with my instance.

I agree completely. I don’t want anyone let alone young people getting addicted to nicotine, but a straight up ban isn’t gonna stop it. When I was a teen it was easy for me to get someone else to buy me smokes or booze or weed, just needed to pay a runners fee which was perfectly fine to me back then. Kids are dumb (so was I, no shade) they’re gonna do what makes them look cool and helps them to fit in with their peers.

Unpopular opinion on lemmy but why not? Kids are gonna get their hands on nicotine no matter how hard it’s regulated, same with booze and weed and cigarettes. Banning flavored juices just pisses off a lot of older vapers like me that have been vaping for years. I originally started to quit cigarettes, which I smoked for 6 years, and now 8 on the vape.

If I wanna poison my lungs, what business is that of anyone else’s? Don’t try and give me that bullshit about “think of the children” either, they’re gonna get their hands on nicotine regardless whether that be through vaping or smoking. I don’t wanna smoke nasty ass cigarettes, I like my peach flavoured vape juice.

I know lemmy has basically zero sympathy for nicotine addicts so I’m sure this will be heavily down voted but I just wanted to voice my opinion. Fuck off and let me live my life how I want to live it. Lung cancer or liver failure is basically my retirement plan since I’m otherwise gonna work until I drop dead anyways.

Edit: But I fully support banning disposable vapes. They’re a huge waste and banning them would raise the barrier of entry for people that want to vape. I have to change my cotton every few days and change my coils every month or so, and it’s fairly easy to mess up. Even premade coils with cotton already in them are a barrier to entry, I know a 30 year old dude that went back to smokes cause he’s too lazy to buy new coils and change them when they start tasting bad.

I’ve been using a computer on an almost daily basis for over a decade now, and before that I used one whenever I had the opportunity because I’ve loved computers since I was a kid. I’m 30 and have carpal tunnel in my mouse hand, not bad enough to get it surgically fixed, but I wear a wrist brace pretty much 24/7 at this point to keep the pain under control.

That said I agree with your point about using whatever you’re comfortable with completely, just wanted to throw my own anecdotal experience out there for others to see. Everyone’s different and what’s fine for you or me may not be for others.

That’s completely fair, I don’t begrudge anyone for using .world, that’s a very good reason to use .world tbh. There are other stable instances though, and I’m gonna shill for my own instance, the .ca admin is top tier and very transparent with the userbase. They straight up said -

Edit: This was said in the thread about potentially refederating with hexbear. I’m sure they knew it would be an extremely unpopular opinion to refederate with that shithole but they still sought out the communities opinion rather than making the decision on their own. Massive respect for doing that, and they abided by the communities wishes to not refederate with them.

Move to a different instance. Honestly, .world is too big and has too much influence. I get most people just wanna join the biggest instance but tons of other instances federate with .world so you can still have the content without the majority convening on one instance and giving them most of the power.

What would happen if .world went down? Tons of accounts and communities would be lost, people need to spread out to different instances instead of trying to make .world reddit 2.0.

I would outlaw starting work before 12pm. I’m 30 and I still absolutely hate mornings just as much as I did when I was 10. I’m naturally a night person but working graveyards has more problems than dealing with early mornings IMO. Let all the morning people feel the pain of having to be productive during your least productive hours for a change.

Mushrooms.

Everything about them disgusts me, from the way they look, to the way they smell, the texture they have and the disgusting mouldy, dirty taste. Even seeing them growing in the ground grosses me out and I’ll take a wide path around them to avoid going near them.

Outside of magic mushrooms, they have literally zero redeeming qualities. I hate them with a passion and it’s basically the only food I never grew out of hating.
