You can also use Steam itself to run external launchers via proton! Might not be the best way, but it was super easy for a noob like me to figure out.
Let’s me play ffxiv (non steam) and bnet games quite easily!

I love that you think OTHERS need to go back to Reddit. With comment’s like this you’d fit right back in bb!
Also everyone say ty everyday for your ability to block people! It’s incredibly useful!
Damn appreciate the details. I’ll def give it a go!
Thank you for mentioning hots, because that’s like the ONE steam game I couldn’t live without. Good to know it’s possible, even if I have to play true full screen vs windowed.
I just got a steam deck, and needed to install FF14 (non steam) so I was mucking around in desktop mode… yeah. I’ll prob be getting a spare drive for my tower now to try out Linux. I’d love nothing more then to cut ties to windows.
You can def export your subs. I did it when I set up freetube originally. So it should just be a question of if the other program will import them.
Why can’t I make a thread? Why can I only use one emote? Why can I sometimes see a message on my phone but not on the computer? Why is there an “old” and a “new” teams app? Why does each one constantly ask me to use the other one? Why are there god damn Mabalene video filters, but yet my god damn calendar won’t sync properly with outlook. Why when I update my picture, does 1/3 of my team see the new one, 1/3 sees the old one, and 1/3 just sees my initials. I’d continue but my thumbs are tired.
Teams actively makes communicating with my team more difficult and I hope it dies so soon.
Are you aware that slack has a back button? Makes getting back to that original channel a breeze. Even works with thumb buttons on my mouse like pretty much every browser.
Or ctrl + k and you can just type part of the channel name/person name etc to quickly go back to it.
Also just a emote to acknowledge a message without spinning up a thread is my go to. Just a 👍”yep I see this”
Yeah I have almost no apps on my Home Screen. Just one page of widgets, and 3 pinned to the bottom.
Otherwise if I want an app I just use spotlight. Quick swipe down and the first letter or 2 of any app and I’m in. I almost never touch the App Library.
This prob comes from using spotlight so much on Mac as well though.
I haven’t had one myself for a while, really anymore I just see it when watching vids on the flip phones or tablets it seems.
But android gave me the reason to switch (the messy apps) years ago, and apple hasn’t given me a reason to switch back yet.
It very well might be fine now, but until apple does something similar enough to push me to switch again, I won’t know haha.
It really just depends on if you prefer customization or reliability.
For example, I’m an apple boi because I like that every app in the store is made specifically for an iPhone (which is easy for devs to do since there’s little variation). It leads to better maintained and performing apps because devs can optimize for the device it’s running on.
On android, you have way more choices, which some people prefer. But for myself, I get really annoyed when I launch an app and it fills 95% of my screen, but not all of it, because my phone is slightly taller then the 2000 other variations out there. It’s much harder for a dev to optimize their app when there are so many variables to account for on android.
Neither phone (or company for that fact) is better. They serve different demographics of users is all.
It’s called having a conversation…… someone says something. Someone else asks a question to stoke the conversation….
And like. Context as well. yes it is a diff conversation if they worked 45 years min wage vs 45 years as a mega corp ceo lol. It def is a valid question for someone to understand the conversation that’s happening.
No ones being hostile by trying to get context to continue the conversation that was totally friendly until they got butthurt for some weird reason.
Ooh. Bloodborne too me years due to this…. Better times back then lol 10/10 would suffer again.
It’s nearly impossible to follow the rules when they are specifically being hidden. No one can keep track of every single rule off the top of their head. That’s why we have things like speed limit signs or no parking signs. Hours of operation for a business clearly posted. Etc.
This law is the equivalent of a road going from 55mph to 35mph, but never telling you with a speed limit sign. Then you get pulled over for speeding because the cop knows it’s 35, but fuck you, go to jail, because you expected there to be a speed limit sign when the speed changed, you know. Like on every other road ever.
The fact that there are 33 pages of outlined rules for this when applying says they intentionally put those rules together so people would follow them. It’s not fair for me to know some obscure rule is missing from the 33 pages of rules specifically supplied for me to follow. That is called deception.
They set an expectation by supplying 33 pages of rules. “Here are all the rules” by leaving one out, you’re intentionally trying to fuck people up with it.
Then there being no place to even put a previous name on the form is just fuckery on top.
“Sorry you wrote you previous name on a part of the paper that wasn’t designated for that, so now we have to disqualify you for following the law. Sorry, it’s just the law /shrug”
I too was playing by the rules with premium for years. It was great. Then they gave me an ad for paramount plus even though I was playing for no ads.
I switched to freetube and haven’t gone back since.
They had my money. But they got too greedy and pushed a paying customer to the dark side.
It’s not minimizing the difference. It’s talking about an entire different problem. You seem to be in the wrong conversation.
Hold on. CASH PRIZES? why wasn’t I told!
Teams actively makes my job harder. The one thing it’s supposed to do for me is help me communicate with my team.
the whole “conversations” instead of threads sucks. The fact that it brings a convo to the bottom if someone reply’s to it causes people to constantly miss messages in other convos.
I have to actively wiggle my mouse and click on stuff to get it to update and show me new messages. And even that doesn’t always do it. So I can’t just leave my laptop open and monitor it, I have to actively go click around every 10 mins to see if there’s a message.
it fails to send me notifications for meetings, and sometimes sends them to me like a hr after the meeting happened.
sometimes I’ll see a message on my phone (I have teams there only because the notifications are more reliable) and then I’ll go to the computer to respond and it’s just gone. Never showed up. I KNOW THE MESSAGE IS THERE TEAMS YOU SENT IT TO MY PHONE WHY ISNT IT ON THE FUCKING PC
The list goes on.
It’s obviously not Reddit numbers, but been a lot of posts about how much lemmy/etc have grown in the last week, largely due to the Reddit fallout.
Clearly it’s not going to replace Reddit overnight, but it’s made large strides very suddenly, and can def close that gap over time. Especially for people like me who enjoyed Reddit, but were just browsers, not really power users
So I’m a die hard apple boi as well, but I’ve been getting into Linux a bit lately (to replace my windows machine that was solely for gaming)
I think the main reason I still stick with Apple over Linux for most things is that Linux requires more tinkering.
Every time I wanna play a new game I need to try out different versions of protons until it works. When I need a new software, I have to go google if I CAN have it, how to get it, or to find out what exact version I should use for my distribution, etc.
Linux, as impressed with it as I am so far, is like having an old classic car I’m fixing up. It’s a hobby. I need to dedicate time to learning, maintaining, and optimizing my experience. So it’s great for my hobby of gaming!
My Mac just works when I need it to work, no tinkering, no second thoughts. It’s the boring but reliable modern car I take on long trips. I just use computer, get work done, without roadblocks I have to google derailing me every 10 mins.
I’m all for Linux, I’ve very much enjoyed it so far and will continue learning, but as a “normie” using Linux, the simplicity of Mac is often missed.
