  • This is an ongoing problem with our Information Age. The fediverse already has this problem, though to a much lesser degree than reddit. Look at the structure of titles of threads on the political magazines/communities here. They are designed to make you outraged, because the sources they come from made their titles with engagement in mind and that permeates over to here. My hope is that the group of people on the fediverse, who are more interested in the future of the internet than most, will give rise to an idea that helps combat this problem.

  • He referred to the mods as landed gentry, which is such a gross and lazy way to try to get people on his side. It has a major flaw too: mods are unpaid, the whole idea behind gentry is that they make money from owning their land.

Let me help you out spez, you piece of shit, if you want to criticize the millions of dollars of unpaid work that mods do for their communities try comparing them to an HOA committee, that at least has a kernel of truth.

  • The difference that I see between reddit and twitter is that reddit hasn’t been purchased to be the plaything of a billionaire. This matters because unlike facebook and google, reddit and twitter aren’t profitable. That means that reddit doesn’t have to pockets to buy up competitors, lobby for beneficial regulations, focus on expanding overseas, or move into making hardware.
