It’s insane, honestly. An old coworker of mine who I sometimes stay in touch with is Muslim, and a Trump supporter. I’ve tried to figure out why, since Trump has never shown any meaningful support of Muslims, and all he could say is that the economy was good under Trump. Like… was having gas be $0.08 cheaper really worth having your actual family banned from entering the country? Not only was he already living paycheck-to-paycheck under Trump and still under Biden, but he was literally directly affected by Trump’s Muslim ban. I don’t know how you justify that with yourself.

If only there was any way to have seen this coming based on literally every single thing he’s said and done over the last decade!

Well, Lemmy isn’t really in the running since it’s a link aggregator, and not a microblogging platform.

But that said, it would be nice to see Fediverse platforms mentioned. Mastodon and dozens of adjacent platforms exist, too, but never see a mention in any articles.

I really wish somebody could get a decent, populated Misskey instance spun up. I think that would be more attractive to people, due to the features more closely resembling those on Twitter than Mastodon’s do. It seems to be doing pretty well in Japan, not sure why we haven’t picked up on it as heavily in the west.

To cause enough instability in all aspects of society that it affects everybody. Once everybody is in the same position, it’s easier to convince them all of what (or who) to blame, and people’s desperation will allow them to justify whatever atrocities are “necessary” to remedy their problems. Right now, it’s “You’re poor because of immigrants”. Tomorrow, it’ll be “You’re in danger because of trans people”. Soon, “You’re being surveilled because of dissenters”, “You’re unhappy because of women”, etc.

When they control the problems, they control the solutions. Disrupting the food chain is the fastest, most immediate way to grab society by the throat; we’ll do anything before we go on a diet.

I’m gonna be honest, Mastodon is kinda trash, on its own. It’s clunky, ugly, and feels like a platform from 2010 (but not in a good way). I think getting people onboard with a Misskey/Sharkey instance is going to be much better. The feature set is a lot closer to Twitter, and it does literally everything Mastodon does, but better.

Were democrats the ones hunting down FEMA? You’re forgetting (or ignoring) the fact that Trump supporters, who identified themselves as such, were the ones who made active threats against the lives of FEMA members. Your democrat boogeyman doesn’t exist in this scenario.
