You know what else is bad OpSec? Something that happened 10 months after this was posted
I just bought a Glockenspiel (actually it’s a set of concert bells) and was talking to the guy who sold it to me about this.
Um, aren’t the Hapsburgs still around?
Yes, for a sense of scale, Pennsylvania (rectangular one in the top right) is about the size of England
Yeah, I was devastated too, because I wanted to get it with my own money one day
Yeah, I had a similar feeling. I understood the intent, but it still felt off
Twisters
Unless we’re counting documentaries, but seeing a documentary of events in the 1960’s in theaters probably doesn’t count as “original” anyways
At least in Doctor Who, the T.A.R.D.I.S. can teleport through space as well as through time, solving that problem. But most time machines don’t
So, Lemmy is a bunch of separate social media networks that seamlessly* connect to each other? That’s… really cool
Omg I love that Wiki article
You know it’s bad when the second section of the Wikipedia article opens with US war crimes
“The metaphor originally meant that corrupt influence spreads, but is now used to downplay war crimes, ACAB btw” legendary
Wait…you can browse instances without making an account??? Whoops, lol, I guess I was a little too eager to get Boost for Lemmy working with an account of my own immediately following Boost for Reddit getting nuked.
Is there a good way to browse instances? (Particularly through Boost?)
Also, what are the instances… literally? Like, I’ve never seen social media have groups like this (tied to the account, and separate from the communities, that is)
I think TikTok is stupid. Everything I see about it makes me think it’s stupid, and short-form media is rotting peoples’ brains
But by god, this is America! We have every right to rot our own brains if we want! U! S! A! The State can’t stop us!
Um, who is that guy?
Of course! Congress will take out his competition for him! Why wouldn’t he?
Also, why does his opinion matter more to Congress than other Americans? Oh, yeah, I know why…
If such fears were officials’ genuine motivation, one could hope that broader data-privacy regulation might follow
This is what blows it out of the water for me. When the TikTok ban was first floated a few years ago, I liked the sound of legislation to protect user data. But that’s not what it’s about; where’s the new regulations? The new protections? What consequences will Twitter and Facebook and Instagram face? No where, no where, none, none, none. It’s not about protecting Americans from the CCP, it’s about stopping the CCP from getting in on their game
Seeing the entirety of America instead of just Ohio in this picture is just wrong
