If utilized as it should be, this Is a really good idea. It creates desperately needed housing, indirectly supports work from home, rescues downtowns struggling from customer loss, helps prevent default on tons of property loans (and preventing something akin to the 2008 crash).

I will always be thankful for Dialectical Behavior Therapy by Marsha Linehan. I have never been diagnosed as borderline, but the lack of basic coping and interpersonal skills was obvious. It wasn’t a cure, but it has given me a foundation on which I was able to move forward with deeper, therapeutic processes. Frankly, I think everyone should go thru all the modules at least once.

Most “nutrition facts” are based on “serving size” which is completely arbitrary, and can differ between locations (especially between countries). The FDA offer some recommendations for serving sizes in the US, but they are just that… recommendations. Companies are going to use this inconsistency to their ultimate advantage.

So do you feel that companies should never sell/use a person’s info even if the product is free? Would you accept greater amounts of advertising and the use of anonamized user data if it meant your personal info was never sold?
In some cases you can, some you can’t. Lemmy vs Reddit for example. If you choose not to use Reddit or use it less, how did you come about that decision? Where is the line of “enough already”?

Things to consider: How much of your data would you be comfortable letting Lemmy sell vs Reddit? If Zuck treated users better, would you be more accepting of Meta monetizing your data every way possible? When it comes to using something for free (tangible or intangible) do you accept a company selling your personal information if their practices align with what you feel is fair?
Depends on the location. Vermont, US doesn’t have snakes like that, but it’s illegal to relocate animals from the property on which it was caught.

This is an unfortunate aspect of individuals/small groups housing the fediverse vs big companies. Big companies have lawyers and the capital to back them, individuals do not.
If I was in your shoes, I’d do the same thing. I appreciate your wish for thus to be temporary. I hope you will share your findings once you come to a final decision; information like this is relevant to all those managing servers.
