- this is a member only article so people are going to mention the (pay) wall
- this is about a tweet from 2020
- what does expressing overthrowing a country in 2020 have to do with c/technology?
It’s telling how you get downvoted, but someone saying the same shit about Apple in this thread gets upvoted.
I hate shitty practices like everybody else, but please keep them to the same standard.
Which is what everyone with some sense predicted, except Xitter exploded into drama from faking proof that it was directly copying Pokémon to claiming wild things like using gen AI to create the models.
These things are easily verified (or rather, debunked), but it was already too late. I lost a lot of faith in some gaming journalists as they kept perpetuating the wild takes and claims.
We’ll do this all again soon with another game and we will not learn from it.
As someone who found elementor the only thing that was working at the time - any suggestions to do better? I have no coding experience fyi
Slang words that are being subtitled wrong because the locale automatically sets to English (international) instead of English (UK) for a lot of players.
It’s in the article if you bothered to read it
Great list, pretty much my childhood. I’ll add some more:
Idk any tech support communities, but you should try booting into BIOS to see if your storage drive is detected. If not, it probably failed (read: it’s dead, fam)
You could try to see if you can reinstall the OS but if the BIOS doesn’t detect the drive, I doubt the OS setup will.
While the data loss will suck, a new drive isn’t very expensive. Plus if you’re still on a HDD, it would be a good time to replace it with an SSD.
I’d say posting paywalled links is just as much allowing misinformation, as nobody can check what the article is saying unless they pay up.
So why not both? Post the article plus the archive link, everybody wins.
If you’re sharing news and want people to discuss, you should make it as accessible as possible.
Isn’t that the whole point of lemmy?
Statistics might be hard. But there’s studies https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/homophobes-might-be-hidden-homosexuals/

Next to these studies there’s also examples of staunch anti-queer people who later got caught being queer themselves, especially politicians.
It never was. It’s freedom of speech without having to fear governmental penalties, broadly speaking. Several categories like incitement, false advertising and CSAM should not be acceptable “speech”.
I was sooooo salty when SC III went PS2 exclusive. I mean not really but I was pretty bummed back then. Until I got a PS2 to go with my GameCube and Xbox, at least.
Soul Calibur was one of the few fighting games I really enjoyed because of the different weapons and stats they could have. It really set it apart from the other fighting games back then like DBZ, Bloody Roar, Mortal Kombat, etc.
The intro cinematics were pretty epic for their time too!
Lol I was thinking of this one when I saw the thread title. Still, I don’t see a way to filter those out
$600 fine, wow. This guy should spend a few nights in jail instead.
Maybe fear was too big of a word, but people generally try to avoid being rejected by their peers. It might not mean anything online in the grand scheme of things, but social media has tapped into our psyche to keep us coming back for more positive interactions.
I actually don’t like the upvote / downvote system. It can manipulate users into posting comments that are generally thought to be more accepted for fear of getting downvoted otherwise.
I’m fine with it working under the hood and ranking comments based on the numbers, but the fact that everyone can see it all makes it more like an echo chamber.
Personally I only upvote comments that I really, really enjoy or replies that are on topic and constructive. Downvotes are for comments that are confidently incorrect, rude or nonsensical.
Anything in between I just don’t vote on it. At least theres no “karma” that’s linked with your profile on here. That would make it a game of chasing numbers like other sites.
It will take a while before we can shake off the redditisms, I think. But I’m with ya
You forgot the “take my upvote and” part
Thank you for your detailed response, and I’m sorry you had to (and will have to) go through this. Feel free to send me a link to your writing if it’s publically available. Philosophically it’s a really interesting subject, but realistically it’s quite revealing of how we are failing as a society.
Your comparison to Neanderthals would surmise we drove them to extinction while morally or ethically speaking they were the better species. Are we the baddies?
I couldn’t read any further, so thanks for more context. I would really love it if we’d share more open articles here so there is the full context to digest and discuss
