I think it’s a combination of nostalgia and the fact that SML1 had levels, enemies and music that were super unique compared to other Mario games before or after.
SML2 is a better game on the technical side of things but nothing in it blew me away or was memorable enough for me to recall with super clarity like I do with 1.
I’ll always prefer SML 1.
But I do fondly remember this.
The rural population isn’t the issue, it’s suburbia which is where the majority of the US population lives.
It’s not dense enough for public transportation to be viable and it’s zoned in a way that makes pedestrian traffic a non starter.

The programs these churches run are typically filling in gaps in social programs that the government doesn’t have the political mandate to enact.
If these churches were taxed you’d see their charities diminished while the funding went to some pork belly spending project, or at the very least not related to what services the church is suddenly not providing.
Not all government spending is a net positive.
That critical mass will never come because people don’t feel the data has been stolen from them.
Rather, it’s traded in exchange for whatever online services they use.
And to them it’s a decent trade.
Everyone knows how dangerous guns are. Part of the point of owning one is that it can be used in a dangerous situation to protect yourself.
The mental issue part is why anyone would want to harm another human with one.

The warning line is having a debt equal to your GDP. The US has a GDP of around 28 trillion but a debt of 34 trillion. So we are past that warning line, but by itself that doesn’t mean anything.
For other countries it would signal to banks and other countries that it might be a bad idea to loan to them, but the US has a kind of special status in the global economy and this hasn’t slowed down loaning so far.

Granted the guts of that plane have been upgraded over and over, but still.
Eventually the interest in the debt will grow too large to service. The government will have to print more and more money leading to hyperinflation. The entire global economy will be impacted as faith in the dollar collapses. The global economy slows and eventually switches to trading in the Yuan. The US loses a ton of it’s soft power globally.
It’s no different, both scenarios are threats to your life until the point the trigger is pulled (then it goes from threat to attempt).
I think the issue in the US is that there are so many guns per capita and the population is so anti authority that it will take generations of confiscation before you’ll get a majority of personal firearms out of personal hands.
And in the meantime you’ve removed the right for individuals to have the opportunity to defend themselves in dangerous situations.
It certainly happens.
Just last week I saw a video where a man ran up with a gun to start a robbery. A woman whipped a handgun out of her purse and shot him.
The idea that personal firearms can’t be used for self defense is a silly argument.
