I’m not sure if there’s a better way but:

1. go here: https://the-federation.info/platform/73
2. bottom page > open an instance you want to federate with
3. Choose a random community of that instance
4. Copy and paste the link of that community in your instance search bar and subscribe
5. Wait a few minutes and you should be federated with that instance

If you open browse.feddit.de you’ll see that it’s not difficult to find the biggest/most popular one
