I agree. Amazon is infamous for that strategy as well. They either buy competitors or make a loss until the competitor is bankrupt.

Youtube most likely never made any money. Hosting these vast amounts of video is expensive. Google stopped telling us how much they money youtube made them lose. You would think they would start bragging when they could make a profit off of it.
That being said, this still sucks of course.
Something like the multireddit function then, maybe? Custom feeds where you can add any communities that you want (doesn’t even have to be the same topic).
I don’t think it makes sense to combine the feeds at a federation level (which I think is what you’re talking about, but correct me if I’m wrong).
No I was thinking about a client side solution. I don’t even know what multireddit is but it sounds like that is what I meant. Though since [email protected] mentioned it, syncing of communities between instances could also be a cool idea.
That will make you lose your post and comment history though.
I’m not a programmer and have very limited Github experience, but I’ll have a look.
This is a very long-winded way to say, I think the solution to your problem is just joining both communities, and you’ll see both in your feed as a result.
Sure, but all communities of all kinds of topics are in my feed. A way to organize by topic would be nice.
>Thanks, I had no idea. I did try the search function but I didn’t use the “!”, so that was probably the problem.
Nevermind, this does not work every time it seems. Searching for [email protected] gives me 0 results. Thankfully I can reach it via lemmy.ml/c/[email protected].
Edit: And yes, I am searching all communities, not just local.
Thanks, I had no idea. I did try the search function but I didn’t use the “!”, so that was probably the problem.
Maybe get funding from the European Commission or https://nlnet.nl/
They do get funding from NLNet
I believe the problem is more in the software than the hardware. Linux just isn’t great in this regard yet.
Fedora KDE on the framwork laptop. Not the only one here it seems. My pc still runs Windows 10 but I’ll change that once I have the time.
Fedora is cool because it is about as user friendly to beginners as Ubuntu, without Canonicals shenanigans. It’s a freedom respecting community project and always pretty up to date. I like the quick release cycle. It seems like a good balance between a rolling release and slow fixed releases. Upgrading to the next version takes no effort. And KDE is just cool for it’s customizability.
That’s the joke right? It’s just poking some fun at Linux users for feeling superior, I see no harm in it.
Cool, I’m on the same laptop, same distro and same spin. I really like it, but I wish batterylife was better on Linux in general and that hibernation wasn’t such a pain to setup.
If you want Microsoft to get fucked, you’ll also have to remove the telemetry (or leave Windows).
I say it only to point out that most of what you’ve learned about China, is coming through a heavy media filter, from a media who only seeks to demonize a country they’re in a trade war with.
Most of the world disagrees with you, especially the middle east
China is an important and powerful trading partner to many countries, so there is an incentive not to speak up. If you are skeptical about the western media, I think you should also be skeptical about the stance of these governments.
To me the situation in Xinjiang is very concerning because humanitarian organizations like Amnesty International speak out against the treatment of Uygurs. I think they don’t have a reason to turn a blind eye like many of these governments do. And quite a few of them don’t seem to be bothered by human rights violations, violating them themselves in horrific ways. Looking at you, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Syria etc.
Again, I agree that the west has a political motive to slander China. And the west also does and has done horrible things. But I don’t think the same goes for humanitarian organizations.
They at least suspended an account that crossposted a Lemmy migration post in many 3rd party app subs for a couple of hours for spamming. Seems like you could reasonably argue it was spamming though.
I agree that the signing up process should be streamlined and bugs should be fixed. But I don’t agree we should maximize the userbase even if we need to weed out a lot of nasty people and bots later. That would make the platform more unpleasant instead of better.
I think the critical mass has already been reached. Not to be an exact copy of Reddit with all its tiny subs, but to be a nice place in its own right.
To combat the splintering problem I think there should be an option to combine similar communities of different instances. You would still have to choose an instance when posting, but when reading you wouldn’t.
He then swapped to saying he wanted it for the box and art
I would guess that was after he found out the disc doesn’t run on a modern PC.
You don’t have opposable thumbs, you ain’t pulling shit
