You are just rejecting reality then. You’ve said YouTube or other big social media to be the ‘virtual town squares’ but they are not, they are virtual malls. Also real life town squares can have rules imposed by the town council too.

They have plenty of other places to go with their content, some platforms aren’t for them and that’s ok. But they don’t want to express themselves shouting from a soapbox in the town square, they want to sell their content in the mall and these particular malls just don’t sell that kind of product.

I don’t think freedoms are opposed here. Creators have the freedom to express themselves that freedom just doesn’t force anyone to give them a platform. They can use their own or another one that’s willing to host their content, which there are many, and then if they, creators or platform, are legally punished it would be a violation of their freedom of expression.

There is not a fundamental right to use other people’s platform for your expression. That’s not what freedom of expression means.

I’m not talking about who’s ‘rightful ruler’ or not. The roc was a country and the communist revolution took a part of the territory and made it into the prc (a new country) while the roc still exist in the remaining territory. That’s the definition of a secession. I was just pointing out one of the holes in your analogy.

Now that you took the time to write that I have a couple of questions. Was the white terror an ethnic cleansing? I might be under informed on the matter but I don’t know anything about any ethnic groups targeted in particular. Your last paragraphs imply that the sovereignty and territorial questions about Taiwan and the People’s Republic aren’t a settled matter for the whole world (except maybe the prc). Are there many voices claiming for the Taiwan government to be the ruler of mainland China anymore? Or any territorial ambitions other than staying an independent island nation?

Wouldn’t the separatists be mainland china? Honest question. Like there’s continuity from the former china government to Taiwan’s, the people’s republic is the newest entity.

Take this with a pinch of salt, I’m not a programmer just a nerd that likes those kind of things. I tried them years ago first swift (I think it was in version 2) and a couple years later rust, and while both are great I found swift makes it easier to write clear code you’re gonna understand and like when you come back to it. Rust was better I think with concurrency (at the time), you’ll catch everything at compile time, but they talk about interoperability with c++, so this safety will be lost since most code interfacing with c++ will be unsafe.

That’d be a contraction of ‘would’ in this case, wouldn’t it? As an ESL speaker I used to find these grammar ‘mistakes’ (for lack of a better word) made more difficult for me to parse the sentences. As with code ‘written once but read many times’ would apply here.

Yeah we should expect proof of this kind of claims, having to demand it only shows how low the bar is. But even IF they can prove it, and that’s a big if, twelve people among such a massive organization would still be a nothingburger unless they’ve infiltrated the highest ranks.

‘Ties with militant groups’ is vague enough so many people will read ‘on the terrorists’ payroll’. And on time some ‘proof’ like phone calls, pictures in the same place with a ‘militant group’ member, or handing them some material aid, going to the same mosquee…

The thing is unless they’re able to articulate more concrete accusations I wouldn’t even ask for proof, proof of what? I mean I have a bunch of cousins I barely met when I was a child, and no clue what they’ve been up to these ~30 years… I might have some ‘ties’ to ‘militant groups’ too, who knows?

All aid workers around the world don’t have a choice but to collaborate with ‘militant groups’, gangs, dictators, mafia, warlords, cartels… if they have to make a deal with the devil himself to be able to help some children be damned sure they’re gonna.

Having their ranks infiltrated is nothing new to aid orgs either (remember that sexual abuse scandal not long ago) or any other organization really, specially those that try to do good. Cutting the aid because an organization isn’t perfectly invulnerable is imo utterly stupid.

So I don’t care much for those proofs, as I think the facts are most certainly true (to a degree) but NORMAL. The way they are interpreted and used as an excuse to cut the aid is absolute bullshit.

It might not be written literally like that but for Microsoft not letting third party developers write kernel drivers for windows would be considered abusing their position in the market very fast. The problem isn’t they allow kernel drivers, this is just ms throwing all the balls they can, is that they certified this very driver, as tested and stable. Without this certification most IT teams would’ve been more reticent to install crowdstrike’s root kit in their systems.

Hard to say yet, if Microsoft is responsible or not. The thing is they certified it, as a stable and tested driver. But it isn’t just a driver, but an interpreter/loader that loads code at runtime and executes it. In kernel mode. If Microsoft knew this they’re definitely responsible for certifying it, but maybe crowdstrike hid this behavior until it was deployed to the customers.

‘He’s out of line but he’s right’. I mean, is a bit ironic to give this level of permission to a program that is too malware-like to protect yourself from exactly that. We’re talking about hospitals, airports and airlines, government agencies… many critical systems, so much information’s security rely on a (foreign for most of the world) private company.

Some people are gonna vote D/R no matter what, some will never vote D/R. The problem at hand is not those, is taking the people that could vote D ‘off their seats’ and go cast that vote. Biden’s not moving anyone, which could seriously result in losing the election, and I think Harris on top of not moving these could make the people that have a problem with her being a woman of color or a prosecutor go vote for Trump. The perceive problem is a real concern.

Agree with the second, only thing to add is that if anyone was expecting that politicians i.e. rich, privileged, and powerful people would do anything but favor the rich, privileged, and powerful people they’re an idiot.
