I think one of his accounts was [email protected], basically he got banned for community squatting and then due to it vowed to ruin the platform, his first attempt was spamming a bunch of long domains, but that got automated out as someone released a tool that allowed you to give a token and a username and it just nuked every community that person owned. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was the same guy.

as much as I wanna jump on the spez evil train, I think a more likely trail is that kid who got banned for community squatting, he found that they automated away his ability to just spam create dumb communities so now he’s likely just paying someone to DDoS the platform. He has a youtube channel, it’s really sad. All his videos are worthless acts like “hacking” (more like exploiting) websites that he thinks are popular/makes views. He even has a video on how to speedrun getting monetized on youtube in the event that your channel gets banned/demonetized. It’s super shitty.

so far I’ve seen some bots post articles that setup some pretty decent conversation. I am slightly annoyed that it floods but, I just keep my sorting by stuff that’s hot and it’s usually good.

fully agree, I dislike light mode but the true black dark modes hurt just the same after extended periods, grey mode somewhat like how discord has it hopefully turns into standard for dark mode styles instead of OLED style dark modes

I can’t disprove any findings that the article never claims. I just read through all three of those. That was the biggest waste of time I did today.

Nothing in those articles stated any evidence or facts(article 2 doesn’t even talk about dark mode past the first paragraph btw, it transitions into blue light and calling it dark mode). Nothing was peer-reviewed. None of them even took a side.

That being said, I decided to do some research of my own on the college portal, it doesn’t seem like there is much actual research on the matter period. The closest thing I could find is a study indicating that usage of dark mode can cause you to be more honest, which i have saved to read later because that sounds interesting.

What I do know is, I could barely read article 1 and 3 due to the text on the screen. I actually have a headache from the strain of the black text on white background. I really don’t understand how people can do that. Like sure white text on black screen can be a pain at times as well but, at least it doesn’t give me a headache. It’s not like dark mode implementations are white on black, most of them are a white on grey or a grey on black to allow for a lesser adjustment, it’s OLED themes that do pitch black with white text. I can do dark theme any day, my eyes hurt with OLED themes

It’s not just the tab s8, I have a tab s7 and it’s super bright and obnoxiously loud even at the lowest settings. I don’t understand why there is not more control over it.

I was going to make a comment then I noticed the community. I agree you found a really unpopular opinion. I expect the downvoters are ones who didn’t realize the community you posted to.

That being said, it’s still early on, I’m hoping it stays alive. I miss some of the nitche communities as well but, a good portion did somewhat migrate, you just need to reach out and sub to them cause it doesn’t show them very well.

I personally couldn’t get into having communities be called magazines, I found it confusing to find what I wanted then I moved to lemmy and then it was somewhat re-enforced the decision when it was stated that the instance was being de-federated from some instances so I sorta just stayed.

I made an account on both world and kbin, I gave up mostly on the kbin account, I couldn’t find anything local that caught my eye and I didn’t like the UI layout for it, that night be part of their issue as well

or sometime they do hash the password but they are just ignorant of how it works so they keep the limit regardless

some sites like Walmart are removing the password requirement completly in favor of OTP, mcdonalds does the same, you type your email/phone number it sends you a link and you click the link to gain access. I wouldn’t recommend that for a bank site but, a low risk site? why not.

I blocked it at the router, so nowadays I don’t use it unless there’s an article I really need to access

edit: I just attempted this again on my laptop, they have slightly fixed the issue. If an update is queued when you’re online you can remove it from the queue and then go offline and you can play it again. However if you are online you still need to update in order to play the game. This is much better than what it used to be, which was if it detected that you need an update even if you canceled the update and went offline it would say update required.

Please be aware that if the setting your indicating is the allow background updates or the prevent auto updates. While that will make it so the game will not update automatically it will still register the game as requiring update which means if you go offline it won’t let you play the game until the update has been done.

I’m going to go test it again because it’s been a while since I’ve tried update in a few minutes

A workaround you can do is, before launching steam disconnect from the internet, then launch steam, when it launches it will say no connection and give an option to launch in offline mode, once offline mode is launched you can turn your internet back on. Just keep in mind steam also has to refresh your games every once and awhile as well so you have to go online at /some/ point or it won’t let you play the game offline anymore. Steam is super annoying in that matter.
