Legally I’m not sure - symbolically he could do a lot. Call out the ethical judgement of Thomas and Alito for one. Recommend recusal. Hell, suggest resignations - if he were a principled Chief Justice that is, but alas….

The Chief Justice calling on him to recuse would be one. Even better - advocating for a binding code of ethics.
At the very least, meeting with Congress.
He refuses to even do symbolic gestures.
If Roberts had any principles or just a spine he’d set an example, instead the SCOTUS legacy is beclowned daily and he does not care. What a failure of a once vaunted institution.
The anarchy symbol rebelliously displayed on a rear projection screen, the pride of the A/V department, in a ballroom of a Hamilton Suites lobby somewhere. My youth recoils in horror.
The problem is people on juries can (try) to disregard instructions. I served on one and was NOT the foreperson and yet was the only one to speak up when some insisted on raising hypothetical motives when the judge had specifically instructed us only to consider presented evidence.
“No, you cannot guess as to what occurred” I had to repeatedly say.
I worry that one or more jurors will rationalize instead of fulfill their sworn duty. I hope not but….
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What an amazing gesture and selfless decision by a family living my worst nightmare. That is achingly beautiful.
I was a 14-year Redditor that contributed both to them and app platforms. Nuked my account on principle because of how they decided to treat the community that built them. Nobody asked me to, I acted on my own discretion because it was (in my view) the right thing to do. Same reason I ditched Twitter.
The mods were acting on the same basis - they had supported a platform that made decisions they opposed. It wasn’t in service of anything other than doing the right thing.
Is spineless turd that much of a career path in the GOP? Cruz, McConnell, DeSantis, Christie, Romney (for a time) and more bending the knee. Pathetic.
I used to think that, it took talking to people that lost loved ones to suicide and learning more about it to feel far more empathy - imagine seeing the world without you, to picture your family happier with you gone. Utter despair where dying is the appealing option.
Yes, **if ** and that’s a massive if, this was a dramatic last act it may have been malicious or selfish….or an irrational, impulsive and ultimately tragic decision.
I feel sorry for everyone involved. Its horrible.
Imagine any other defendant in a criminal proceeding suggesting to reduce security in order for their supporters to disrupt proceedings.
Jury tampering is illegal after all.
At least, for everyone else it is.
But…but….but…the market will self regulate?
The payment which was effectively an undeclared campaign contribution which led to court proceedings and exposed the whole deal.
I’ve enjoyed their series of videos of abandoned towns - especially the remote Alaskan and Canadian ones with the skateboarder host that is great at making connections with locals. Great content that showed off their skill. Shame.
She has no fucking clue what appeasement means or how it objectively applies in this instance.
She responds insultingly to what is an entirely reasonable and entirely diplomatic phrasing of a justified opinion.
She’s an utter embarrassment. Every single voter in her district should be mortified. What a buffoon.
I suspect it’s the rationale of “he’s our moron”. They’re fine with incompetence and corruption if it hurts the other side more than their own.
To be fair, Cotton is an utter dipshit so his ignorance is genuine.
A great point were it not quantifiably true that immigrants have lower per capita rates of criminal activity than citizens. Also, it is perfectly legal to come into the country and ask for asylum (which many are doing), it is further known that there is rampant and illegal employment for migrant workers by agricultural and hospitality industries that rarely suffer any consequences for exploiting and underpaying workers. (See: dollar menu pricing)
Ignoring the motives behind migration and even worse the lack of funding for enforcement of legislation whose reform is stuck for political reasons blames the victims for their plight.
But simple explanations are easier, no matter how wrong they may be factually.
Every assertion is a confession.
“I crossed the line, don’t hold me accountable”.
No. Everyone is equal under the law. Must be.
I understood it perfectly - my point which applies to both comments is that nothing in the 14th stipulates or indeed even mentions conviction, it does specifically exclude insurrection which applies, as determined by the Colorado court, solely to Trump.
The original response was flawed in its premise, agreed, but the guilt angle is Constitutionally irrelevant regardless - that was my point.
The employer is within their rights to terminate so long as it’s not on the basis of a protected class (gender, religion, age etc.).
I don’t agree that stating an opinion should be grounds but I do not believe they violated anything.
Even worse, she’s recognized for excellent work performance so you’d think that matters more….but nope.
