aim to overhaul federal programs, enact conservative policies, and investigate Trump’s legal adversaries.
“America First” was always an oxymoron. MAGA always means great for certain people. It’s going to be surreal to have to listen to both the gloating of tasting liberal tears while asking why the Democrats aren’t doing anything to help the country.
People died that didn’t need to die in Trump’s first term. Guess we’re going to try this again at level 2.
Something about pigs and lipstick…
When I first saw one pass by me in reality, my first reaction was “jesus”. And the colors I’ve seen on display (a Tesla store is nearby), wtf? Not that a good color would help a lot, it still looks very wrong.
The story about frogs staying in a warming pot is not true. It is however exactly how humans react, as they can convince themselves of all sorts of things to avoid change.
What Would Captain America Do?
“found by his mother” says so much without having to go into details.
No, they’ll pay them. Or rather their consumers will pay them. The fines are usually cheaper than fixing the problem anyway. Cost of doing business.
Thanks for the EPA, Nixon. It was a good run.
I can’t prove a negative. I wasn’t aware of FEMA workers being threatened in Florida like in NC and TN. I also can’t seem to find any news about it, only about the earlier. Doesn’t mean it’s not true, it’s just that the idea of people attacking those trying to help them didn’t seem to be in both places based on a search.
You’re correct that more information in an investigation will bring light to what happened, however I’m going by the info in the article and not just the title, and there is more info there. Your last part suggests you’re referring to the other storm’s area and FEMA threats there, not in Florida.
It’s specifically about Milton and Florida, so I don’t think it’s tied to the craziness that was going on in Western NC after Helene. The takeaway should be that one supervisor let politics get in the way of their job and got properly removed for it. My first thought in seeing this news was how well signs must have been put into the ground to not be gone after cat 1 winds. Or what if your neighbor’s sign got blown into your yard?
The companies might do better if he’s there less to make decisions for them.
Probably trying to mirror Reddit, which had /r/politics for US, and /r/worldnews for everything else. There was a lot of effort (probably wrongly) to try and copy Reddit over instead of finding new ways to do things. /r/worldpolitics was the original sub, but there’s an interesting drama story there.
If Lemmy and other fediverse discussion areas had developed slower and more naturally there might have been more of a country/instance symmetry, but anyone who was around when the Reddit implosion and migration happened knows that it was total chaos and a grab bag of where a new user should sign up. Lemmy and the rest were not ready for such a shift, and now that everyone’s been in a place or two for a while, short of a closure or blocking or whatever there’s no reason to move around to a matching country and instance, if there even is one. People mainly look for popularity, activity, themes, and engagement, and if that’s found on the other side of the globe it works.
Our founders would be so appalled. Total opposite of what they were aiming for.
Yep, and the important thing about keeping a Democrat governor is their veto power against one of the worst state congresses ever. I actually haven’t looked into what changed at that level, but I don’t have much hope that the GOP stranglehold was broken.
