Trump happened because large segments of US voters feel disenfranchised and resentful, as they feel they have been left behind and that their lives have been made worse by the policies of the political establishment and experts.

And, even if they were, you could just promise bogus tax cuts and cheap legal weed and slide in being socially conservative, they wouldn’t notice.
But yes, you are right, Libertarian capitalists want the social freedom to make profits, which comes from restricting freedoms for those who are less wealthy. They will always fundamentally want less freedom for those they will oppress in order to force them to so kindly donate the vast majority of their labour in return for a small payment.
Thanks for this article, although I might find it hard to read because it reveals another area where people lack compassion. My initial thought from the headline is: Maybe America is a racist country, which might be related to how so many Americans are very happy to vote for outspoken racists?
I do think that those with power see those without power as an inexhaustible resource, and one to be taken for granted. How shocked they will be when the change they make on the world, in the name of profit, causes that resource to dwindle.

The question of ‘how many people must die before we change things?’ is not answerable. Sometimes, the fact that people are dying is - it seems - massively preferable to the difficult work of making a change, especially one that might reduce profits slightly.

We live in a world where treating people with decency is seen by many as insurrection against the natural order (“people other than me should be PUNISHED for not being me!”). Of course it is necessary.

I’m not voting at all, because I am complying with American law. I hope you appreciate that, unless you like election laws being broken? I don’t, because that will almost certainly help Trump win, overall - that’s why the project so hard about election law being overrun by scary immigrants and what have you, because they intend to break those same laws to secure a victory.
