  • It’s also useful for other addiction treatment for things like meth, etc. IIRC it can also be used to cycle with ADHD meds to reduce tolerance, (though if taken with them, you don’t get any benefit from the ADHD med).

NAC is also useful for things like COPD, and weirdly is a pretty great chelation agent for heavy metals and I want to say is also used for paracetamol overdose.

Semi-related: is there a nootropic/drugnerds community on Lemmy yet?

  • I kind of agree with other person who said it’s basically just antidepressants… though I’ve shyed away from the one that made me deeply content (yet somewhat dysfunctional) in exchange for one that leaves me more functional in exchange for a bit more (healthy) strife.

I’d be quite curious of a world where everyone is on universally functioning antidepressants.

Is this society a functioning dystopia or a dysfunctional utopia?

Also OP have you ever played the video game ‘We Happy Few’, a key feature of the world is that everyone takes a mild psychedelic called Joy to stop them from remembering the past.

Another story that I seem to recall using a similar plot point is Brave New World and their drug Soma (IIRC)

Or using any legacy hardware such as the playstation eyetoy camera, a usb keyboard with a built in piano keyboard, some old random TV tuner card

Then there’s the hardware which windows only ever had 32bit drivers for, meaning even if you find the drivers on some obscure dodgy site they’ll never work.

Then there’s the whole bs of windows not allowing unsigned drivers.

None of these issues on Linux

  • I’m sure you know this, but that’s exactly how a town got turned in to a EPA superfund site due to Dioxin contamination, because of a fuck up over chain of command for waste oil from the creation of napalm or pesticides(IIRC?). The guy running the spraying business didn’t know, which I can believe, but the company that paid for him to dispose of it should’ve informed him.

  • I can believe it; in the UK our fire regs have become rather stringent due to the Grenfell fire, though those changes are mostly on flats/buildings more then 3(?) storeis etc.

The PVC external cladding can melt from a mid to large sized bonfire 10-15 foot away. We can’t use it to clad houses above the 2nd floor, though there are exceptions if your replacing existing cladding. So if you want to add a former to your loft you have to use tiles now.

Though there’s this interesting product called magply which is roughly as strong as ply, but is made from magnesium oxide and silicate. It’s considered incombustible so you can clad with it, then render it.

I wonder if we’ll start seeing different materials used in areas prone to forest fires

  • Quite literally self ‘Annihilation’, I think the shimmer itself is more analogous to cancer (continuously expanding, with random distorted outcomes, most of which are agressive towards anything untainted by the shimmer), but fundamentally each of the characters are there for their own different reasons for self-destruction with the hopes that it benefits others, as they effectively know it’s a suicide mission).

The bit that I cannot recall if it was explained is why did the special ops guy go if he had a loving wife at home; what was his reason for self destruction?
