I have a non-vegan/carnist SO, I’m not the only one that dates non-vegans. My family is non-vegan. My friends in RL are all non-vegan. You apparently know all about my life even though I have never tried to convert people into a “cult” or shunned people for not being vegan. I have only talked about veganism when it is prompted, like when people were curious why I decided to switch or online when the subject comes up. Different vegans have different approaches to things. Some vegans only date other vegans, after the bullshit I’ve gone through with my non-vegan/carnist SO I can see why.

I loved both games with SA2 being better in my eyes. But what kept me playing the crap out of them were the chao gardens. I had both games on Dreamcast, GameCube, and now on PC. The chaos are too addictive. On Dreamcast you could take them with you on the VMU, on GameCube you could take them to the tiny chao garden on GBA, and then PC just cut this content (boo) but at least you can easily mod your chaos with the fusion chao editor. I can’t believe there aren’t any other games with the chao gardens, just a missed opportunity. Even just a game focused on the chao gardens would be awesome.

Joining a vegan community exposes you to toxic trolls that are hostile to the very idea of veganism aka carnists. Their comments are eventually removed at least. Calling things you do not like Nazis is extremely poor taste. Nazis killed an estimated 17 million people. This is very serious. You are comparing Nazis to vegans who just want animals to stop dying for human consumption. More than 80 billion land animals are slaughtered for meat every year worldwide. You may not value an animal as equal to a human life, but you must admit this is messed up.

Vegans on Lemmy do get harassed, they get childish carnists coming to their threads telling vegans they are going to eat even more meat to piss them off or get called all sorts of things to provoke them into engaging in a bad faith “debate.” I remember someone saying vegans are overemotional and are unable to comprehend the great logic of eating meat. They are trolls and they need to fuck off from vegan communities.

In my personal life, I’ve had a lot of push back from my family and SO about switching to veganism. My family has tried obnoxiously to get me to eat meat, they don’t prepare my meals but felt they needed to “get these ideas out of [my] head.” And my SO has tried to get me to eat meat multiple times, they make my meals and it would be “easier” if I just ate what they ate especially since they find my food “gross” and “sad.” My SO has not even tried any of my vegan meals they have made for me because the food can’t possibly taste good without meat in it. I wanted to visit a vegan restaurant and my SO refused to go. Not even for my birthday. When I first went vegan my SO told me my veganism wouldn’t be a problem for them as long as I didn’t make it a problem. Shit is depressing. Do you know how many times they have asked me what I wanted from the grocery store and after sending them vegan recipes, they came back with ingredients for only meat-centered dishes? Too many times. I pay for all groceries btw in case you were wondering about our arrangement. Sorry for ranting, it just sucks and has taken its toll.

Please read the content linked in a drama thread. So many lemmy.world users and others admitted they did not read the actual words said but raged against vegans anyway. You’ve created an imaginary scenario, there was no call for fuck’s sake. Just people discussing in a single thread if it is possible to feed a cat a vegan diet if you give them proper supplements. Cats do need taurine, but the cat food you buy in a store has synthetic taurine added to it because the processing removes actual taurine (this was mentioned in the thread btw). Someone even linked studies of it being possible. Then a lemmy.world admin got triggered because they were ignorant and did not even bother reading the content of the comments beyond the words “cat” and “vegan diet” and ended up removing the mod team for trying to push back. The admin was forced to apologize. But the userbase did not read anything apparently and kept saying Rook shouldn’t apologize for trying to stop the evil vegans forcing cats to eat vegan diets. This spread like wildfire. Honestly, just reactionary bullshit and idk why I expected lemmy to be better than that.

I’m female and bi and it is definitely noticeable when someone is staring at my chest and it is very uncomfortable. When I was younger there were certain guys that rarely looked me in my face and were just looking at my chest the whole time. I asked other girls about it and they agreed they too felt them gazing at their chests and it was really uncomfortable and off-putting for them as well. If you wanna help then tell them discreetly to tighten their bra straps. Otherwise I don’t find it acceptable to stare at a woman’s chest. Maybe, but I was thinking how back then if I wanted to borrow Spore or Oblivion from a friend then I could physically trade the discs with them. Nowadays it is more acceptable for everyone to have their own computer or gaming system assuming there aren’t financial constraints. My new problem with the new Steam Families is that it limits you to one group of 6 people and you have to wait an entire year after leaving a family to create or join a new one. Supposedly what initially made me pissed off enough to pirate again has been fixed.

I think you misunderstand family share. I’ve used it and it’s basically if you share with someone else then whenever you are online and playing any one of your games then the other person cannot play any of your other games. So you’re playing game A, well the other person can’t play game B, C, D, E, etc. from your library. That’s what anon is talking about. Steam is introducing Steam Families that is supposed to fix it but I haven’t tried it since I gave up on family sharing long before it was announced, I went back to pirating to share games.

I prefer end to end encryption, like in Matrix, Signal, SimpleX, etc. So I don’t use Lemmy for PMs since they are not actually private, hell I went quite a while where I stopped using Lemmy because it is not meant for someone interested in their own privacy despite the irony of having multiple privacy focused communities. I also would rather manage what I block or federate to. I hate that Lemmy enables instances to have too much control over its users, deciding what you can and cannot see and admins can see your PMs too. I got fed up with Lemmy.world because of their federation fuckups, why would communities that talk about piracy but don’t link to anything cause an admin to get sued? Performer Abigail Mac has received these messages after losing her account. “It’s people that work at Instagram,” Mac says she believes. “[They’re] extorting them and just stealing their money.”

In her most recent ordeal, Mac says, Meta took down her account then she received a message from a scammer, offering to retrieve the account for $15,000. They swore the account would disappear forever if she didn’t pay them in 24 hours. She replied that she would get her account back herself.

“Then they asked me what my budget was,” Mac says. “Every day [they] would knock some money off. It’s such a scam.”

The scarier scenario occurs when someone messages you are saying, “Hey, save my stuff in case you lose your account.” Then, whoopsie doodle, lo and beyond, your account’s gone. Now, when I receive these messages, my stomach drops.

The worst part is when I’ve paid these people, it’s often worked. They’ve retrieved my account. I’m thankful for that, but it raises questions about how these people operate and what they know, not just about sex workers’ Instagram accounts, but everyone’s. How do they get the accounts back? Where do they work when they’re not retrieving sex workers’ accounts? How do they communicate with Meta to fix the problem? And why does your account get deleted over and over again once you pay these people?

“Once you pay, they know you will pay and keep doing it,” Mac says.

Girls have paid up to $20,000 and have not gotten their accounts back. It’s plausible these scam artists message a girl, report her account, and then contact her via another avenue, such as Twitter or email. But there’s no way to know for sure. For all the talk about the dangers of social media, from teenage anorexia rates to smartphone addiction, the public pays little attention to the harms sex workers face on these sites. (Unless a porn star is fucking a president, you’re not going to see her on the cover of the Wall Street Journal.) We need Meta to investigate the problem and identify what has gone wrong before more people get scammed.

This is definitely a con of Lemmy for me. I like to be more privacy focused but Lemmy gives you 0 privacy on whatever you do on the website. Anyone who wants more privacy on Lemmy is told you have no right to privacy, don’t expect any privacy, everything you do is public on the internet, etc. A massive boner killer for me. I think basic things like deleting your own post or comments should actually get removed from all servers, PMs should not be viewable by anyone except the recipients, and what you vote on or subscribe to should be private. Lemmy doesn’t sell your data but that’s because anyone can take the data for free. I thought this stuff was because Lemmy is still new and will get to it eventually but the push back seems to say this was a choice or is not broken. I ended up exploring different social media alternatives but I like the style of Lemmy better since it is more reddit-like with an active user base plus has different android clients. I don’t like kbin because it shows who upvoted or downvoted something to everyone - it’s not accountability when it erodes your privacy.

I used to comment on Lemmy more but then I ran into this problem when juggling multiple accounts, Liftoff sucks ass at letting you know which account you are logged into (I use Summit now and it is better at it) so I ended up getting my accounts’ wires crossed when I thought using the drop down on your accounts changed your account but no you have to go to manage instances to switch which was not intuitive. I ended up abandoning the accounts when I couldn’t figure out how to actually delete the post from the server.

Edit: man I wish I saw this sooner, might be time for me to either stop posting again or look somewhere else.

Files links that Users download are stored in a database for legal concerns and our internal use. All saved links are erased within 1 month for security reasons and service needs. However all requests made on our site are stored for 1 year, the legal retention period.

I would prefer they had a no-logging policy. This sounds fishy af like a honeypot.
