YouTube recommended this video, and based on the thumbnail alone it looked like sensationalist garbage. I didn’t watch it. I think it’s because i watched a single video about “de-googling” and now the algorithm dives straight into the rage-bait deep-end of that topic.
Then it will go out of fashion again, and teeth will be the new tribal tattoo that people are stuck with, and the following generation will be all about smooth gums.
Imagine junkies of this drug would look like tarkatans.
Governments told kids they shouldn’t use it. So it naturally became more popular.
I feel like the type of person reading your comment on Lemmy isn’t the type of person that stays on a platform after it pulls shit they don’t agree with.
It’s great, but a bit too small and thick (…let me just stop you there), and the design is just not really modern or elegant. I didn’t have problems typing on it, personally. But it’s either the Jelly Star, at 3", or you basically jump straight up to 6" minimum.
It would be a great comment if it represented reality, but as an analogy it’s completely off.
LLM-based AI represents functionality that nothing other than the human mind and extensive research or singular expertise can replicate. There is no already existing ‘second, better calculator’ that has the same breadth of capabilities, particularly in areas involving language.
If you’re only using it as a calculator (which was never the strength of an LLM in the first place), for problems you could already solve with a calculator because you understand what is required, then uh… yeah i mean use a calculator, that is the appropriate tool.
If this is about the recent AI demos, I’m not worried at all. Seemed completely artificial, and if anything, patronisingly expressive. I guess you could instruct it to tone it down, but even so, i think you’re either a person that thanks the chatbot, or you’re not (no judgement).
I agree with the article, but i hate the way the author just admits defeat at the end. “I hate everything about it! But i won’t realistically leave. And actually you can keep doing it all, just let me hide hotels pretty please”. Ugh.
I can’t claim I’ve managed anything more, beyond periodically re-testing the alternatives, but i just hate to see it written., Feels like it undermines the whole argument when they make clear that Google will see no consequence.
The biggest hurdle for me, is that many businesses and other points of interest are missing in the alternatives. And if not missing, then useful data like opening hours, reviews, etc aren’t there.
But i hate every moment i spend in Google Maps due to the advertising and bad UX, and I will jump ship as soon as something comes even close (on Android).
I want to use the same (synced) browser across all my OS’s, so the main reason I stopped using Firefox is because their Android tablet UX sucks.
Vivaldi works great though on all my devices and I’m super happy with it.
We stumbled so that you could also stumble but down some stairs.
I like FeedMe (on Android). It’s really versatile to customise the UX to your liking.
That’s all true (unlikely it gets wiped, but definitely technically possible), but i accept it as part of the ‘deal’. My personal data is automatically backed up, if the phone got remote wiped at any point it wouldn’t matter. I know i will need to give it back eventually, but i will have skipped a generation of device (and data plan) in the meantime.
The story with the lady is funny, not sure how she thought it would work.
I don’t use my work laptop as my personal one, i have a personal gaming PC and tablet. If i didn’t have my tablet i might temporarily use the work laptop for personal stuff when travelling, instead of buying a laptop just for that.
Reasons for using the work phone: i don’t need to spend a lot of money duplicating the hardware i already have for free; i don’t need to pay for a phone/data plan to service that second device; i don’t need to carry two phones around (since i need to have the work one anyway).
Any particular reason you have in mind why one should not use their work phone? Or why is this surprising to you? Also not meant disrespectfully, only trying to understand where you are coming from.
Yes, why not? It arrived with separate profiles for work and personal.
This reminded me of the Jar Jar Binks is a Sith lord theory
