Existence had grown exponentially more expensive in my lifetime, well outpacing what a 401k or pension will realistically ever be able to achieve. At best, it might buy me 5-10 years after I am physically unable to work; if I mentally decline too soon due to age (quite likely in my family), I will die in poverty.

That isn’t even touching on the possibility of a habitable climate or war, and assumes the survival of the current economic system.

And?

People seriously do not understand the degree of nationalistic propaganda anyone on a military installation is subjected to.

Every poster, every event, every song, every sale ad for the commissary or other on-base stores, daily national anthem blasted over Giant Voice systems.

It’s not just the military members themselves exposed to it; it’s their spouses and children; people are raised from birth in this environment. It’s every retiree who got a job back on the same base they retired from active duty on.

A US news echo chamber at the whims of whatever they think will appease trump is going to be horrifying…

Try Linux in a VM (virtual machine) for a while.

• Low hassle compared to dual booting,
• no risk of Microsoft randomly doing something to windows that breaks your Linux install.
• low/No system downtime if you decide you don’t like one distro or another and want to switch,
• no loss of game data for your son (I’ve lost so many saves because of games putting them in nonsensical places in windows; why is appdata still the default for minecraft saves!?)

It would be hilarious if they were so incompetent that they forget to not fuck with the Military Industrial Complex.

I’ve said it before on this; with this location, it’s much harder to accidently shut off your computer. The number of times I’ve accidently shut off my work laptop just by holding down the dock to plug in or unplug a cable is absurd…
