it’s no longer a mystery why Disney turned down Snyder’s pitch for a Star Wars movie, if that ever even happened and wasn’t just a story fabricated to drum up hype.

There is a Star Trek app that plays SBS 3D videos, so it’s only a matter of time before someone puts out a dedicated app for it.
This proprietary tool can already convert SBS to MV-HEVC. I imagine we will see support come to ffmpeg and/or x265 in the next year or so, if it’s not already being worked on. MV-HEVC is very similar to the MVC extension to AVC that was used for 3D blu-rays, so it’s not particularly exotic.
If you read the article, this has nothing to do with porn.
The built-in video player doesn’t support SBS 3D video, but third party apps do.
The built-in video player doesn’t support side-by-side stereoscopic video formats. The title of the article should state that the AVP does not play certain 3D video formats out of the box, making the story about porn is just a weird pivot to generate clicks.
However there is already at least one third party app that plays SBS video just fine. You can also convert SBS video to MV-HEVC, which is arguably a better 3D format, and use the built-in player.
Yeah, but then you still have an Oracle dependency in your stack 🤮
Gerwig also still got a nomination for the screenplay, so it’s not like she was completely snubbed
Not surprised Robbie didn’t get a Best Actress nomination, but I really felt Gerwig was a shoo-in for Best Director. Gerwig can still walk away with Best Picture and/or Best Adapted Screenplay though, so it doesn’t feel like a total snub.
C# is regularly under-represented in OSS, in part because for most of it’s existence, the primary implementation (.NET Framework) was not open source or cross platform. It is also very popular in fields where open source is not the norm (game development, bespoke backend infrastructure, embedded apps).
I said it was easy to find C# developers, not that there were more of them on Github.
If the number of possible contributors on github is the big factor here then Python is the obvious choice at 18%.
I understand that being a problem for Rust, but not for many of the other “better than Java” languages on this list. Like, I dunno…C#?
If I’m being honest though, I just really hate Oracle, and that’s enough to give me pause over anything they dip their fingers in.
Or C#, it’s literally “Java, but good”.
The only time I would choose Java for a new project is if I had a hard dependency on something that only works with Java…
kids are on winter break
To me it was about as good as the Comedy Central seasons. That is to say, not as consistent as the original Fox run but still plenty of bangers in there.
If this run follows the same path as CC, then the quality will trend upwards after this first batch.
that’s totally fair in my book
i would think “the best tv show ever” is worth at least a little more than nothing
it’s on hulu, and in higher quality than this torrent
i don’t think people care so much that the qeustions are about sex, but rather that the content is lazy and poorly thought out. most of the time i see a post like that it reads like it was written by a 14 year old who didn’t bother to look at the dozens of prior threads asking basically the same thing.
obnoxious executive pay is its own problem, but even zeroing all that out wouldn’t do much for the financials. if you brought that $50m down to $0 and passed that savings on to consumers, each netflix subscriber would save pennies on their monthly bill
the music streaming platforms basically screw over the artists to make that feasible, with the excuse usually being that artists can make their real money touring and selling merch.
the cost of producing music is also infintesimal compared to that of producing film and television. the whole music industry itself is pretty small in comparison, yet Spotify costs about as much as a streaming TV service.
to scale that model up to film and TV would mean either a much higher base price, or a lot less overall content being made. these are viable paths, but both come with big trade offs.
There’s the problem
And there’s a big part of the solution. Another is giving actual creatives more control over the final product, which they also alluded to.
My hope is that with scaled back Marvel production, they can direct some of that money towards new, original IP.
