There was literally a poll a couple of months ago that showed something like 80% of Ukrainians were in favour of not having elections.

Not to even mention that Ukraine is under Marshall Law, and per their laws disallows elections. And don’t even get me started on the entire premise of running elections in a country where a quarter of the landmass is under enemy occupation and the logistics of getting votes from 100s of thousands of deployed troops and the serious security concerns of the election itself from Russian attacks.

I’m of the opinion that COVID is no longer news worthy beyond the minority it impacts. No different to the flu or various other low risk (to the vast majority) common community transmitted illnesses. It just is now. We don’t get news articles written and publicised at this level for a new flu variant or vaccine, so I don’t see the point for COVID.

At least for Android you can turn off push notifications. Long press the notification in question on the top pull down menu and pick your options.

I would like to hope that Reddit has take a significant traffic hit due this whole API bullshit, but I honestly wouldn’t be all suprised if it was less than 10%.

Close to 13 years, if not just over. Started as a lurker. Then saw something that I felt that I really needed to share my thoughts on. Of course it was just a mumble in a crowd, but it obviously meant enough to me to go through the effort of making an account.

Reddit was by no means small in 2010, I don’t claim to be a pioneer, but it was a different feeling place. Even back then RES was a must for desktop browsing. And 3rd party apps were the only option for mobile browsing. BaconReader was my choice. I think it was actually the first app I ever paid for.

Over time I tried different apps that were being developed and tried to bring a new thing to the table, such as card view (couldn’t ever get away with that) or recently the ability to see deleted/removed comments (until Reddit started blocking certain API stuff that allowed that). Rather poetically found myself back on Baconreader just in time for the shutdown.

I don’t think Lemmy necessarily feels the same as Reddit back then, but I wonder if that is more due to me changing and the communities that I follow, but it is scratching the itch of something to browse and occupy my mind, discover new information and feel like I’m among similar people when I’m procrastinating, shitting or something else.

Likely because that’s who is left on the platfrom. 60% who actively don’t care, and the other 40% who either haven’t realised what’s happening or have no idea what’s going on.

I wasn’t as personal, my pre-delete edit was ‘fuck the greed’.

Don’t know whether the pre-edit is worth it since it wouldn’t have indexed on the scrapers but whatever. No additional effort from me either was.

That’s just the nature of it at the moment. It’s not different to having to deal with swarthes of headlines or posts anywhere when something big is happening.

I don’t have anything technical to add to the discussion, I have absolutely no idea how Lemmy works, just that I despertately wanted somewhere else to go to that wasn’t Reddit.

Still not even sure I understand how any of it works, although I do understand why there are privacy concerns and concerns around ‘syncing’ changes etc.

What I do want to say is that analogies aren’t supposed to be taken too literally. That’s kind of the point of them. :)

I just couldn’t click with Hearthstone. Wanted a time killer that I could jump into for a quick game or two and just couldn’t figure out what was going on really.

Even at my lowly beginner level it seemed that everyone else knew what was going on and would ace me. And I was just left dumbfounded. Couldn’t figure out if it was just me not getting the game or a load of smurfs.

Also doesn’t help that there’s years and years of content to catch up on and anyone new is just in an ocean of it.
