You’re talking about a guy that could pay 100 million dollars for a new account and not even notice. He obviously wouldn’t pay anywhere near that much for something like this. There is no financial cost you can force on him that will change his behavior.

You’re making a lot of unfounded assumptions about what would have happened if Trump were assassinated. No one else has been able to harness MAGA energy the way he has. It’s entirely possible the movement would splinter without its figurehead. We won’t know that until he’s gone. Although it seems less likely now that he presumably has 4 years to enact policy changes and put people in place to keep his agenda moving after his term is up.

There’s plenty of debate to be had on the topic of the effectiveness of guns in civil resistance. All of which can be found in more detail elsewhere than we’re going to be able to cover here. However, suffice it to say that your understanding of resistance in general and guerilla tactics specifically is severely lacking if you’re assuming that this situation would play out as an open confrontation between the US military and some sort of militia. Despite the fact that such a conflict would provide more room for maneuvering than you are giving it credit, that would not be the preferred method of engagement. Generals and other senior officers have to buy groceries and go to the DMV just like everyone else. You pick your targets when and where you can get them. More than anything else, it’s important to acknowledge that in the situation where it becomes necessary to think about these kinds of things in more detail, my guns afford me many more options than your knives (or whatever else you prefer to rely on) would. Unless, of course, you plan on giving up without a fight, in which case we clearly have such different outlooks that additional discussion will not help us find common ground.

Nevermind that his strongest statements on this issue came in the last week of his term when he obviously had no intention of addressing it. Don’t worry about the fact that his hubris robbed us of the opportunity to have an open primary. Forget that his justice department decided to run out the clock on Trump’s legal cases instead of holding him accountable in any way. Just ignore the fact that he spared his friends and family from having to face the consequences of a Trump presidency by pardoning all of them. He was working so hard for us the whole time.

That is for state tax evasion. I’m talking about federal taxes. Make paying a federal tax a requirement to do business in the US. Enforce it per transaction, or as a percentage of revenue, or any number of other methods. It just needs to be a requirement to operate as a business entity in the US. We could easily do this if the will to enact it existed.

Billionaires aren’t going to move to those other countries. The whole point of their lives is to flex their wealth where the other rich people are. If they did decide to leave the US for some reason then tax the shit out of any stock trades they make on the NYSE. Hike their corporate tax rate on any transaction with US citizens. Freeze their assets if they don’t pay what they owe. There are lots of ways to do this we’re just too chicken shit to go down that road.

America hasn’t been great for anyone but rich people for quite some time now. There’s certainly worse places to be but there’s also a lot of better places regardless of which metric you evaluate that by.

You guys are all acting like these things are pointless. They do have minute environmental benefits but their real use is to trick me into believing things will be OK. I mean, at least the Christian conception of God includes the idea that humans will understand what good is by watching other people do evil. In that sense Trump is doing a pretty good job of demonstrating what evil is and why it’s bad.

The warning bell rang decades ago and we’re still ignoring it. There is no escaping or planning around what is to come. It doesn’t matter if you move somewhere less impacted by climate change. The simple truth underpinning all of this bullshit is that they have no intention of holding the rich and powerful to account under any circumstances.

If I assume that everyone gets at least three years after they commit a felony before legal proceedings begin (not including the time in which he was president the first time) then you might have a point. However, they don’t and that’s a pretty fucking important detail. If Garland and the rest of the legal system didn’t drag their feet for so damn long then this could have been wrapped up well before the election cycle even started. Instead they waited long enough to give themselves a semi-plausible, but still utterly ridiculous, reason for doing nothing. I have a hard time believing that’s not what they wanted the whole time.
