Could they be doing that already because of the still open API of Reddit and that will soon change? I just feel like it’s easier for them currently and it will be tougher once the API changes are implemented.
You are right. You would need a team of skilled scrapers and network engineers though would know how to get around rate limiters with some kind of external load balancer or something along those lines.
I’ll join the community for sure. I have ok experience with Linux as a DevOps engineer. I only have a Linux laptop for work though. Would need to get something else going for it.
Never heard of it, but I will take a look.
Oh ok, so this is just a RSS feed essentially for torrenting media content that I want to in the future. I honestly want to do it at some point. Need to get a dedicated Linux machine.
Creating a web scraper vs actually maintaining one that is effective and works is two different things. It’s very easy to fight web scraping if you know what you are doing.
Setup a self hosted VPN service with tailscale on my parents computer. Created an exit node on their computer so I can login to Netflix from “home” once a month. This is all free btw.
Perfect solution. But I also only really watch I Think You Should Leave and Better Call Saul. Torrenting these shows instead will be easy if my hack doesn’t work long term.
Is most of the discussion about the infrastructure done in a community here, or do you folks have an invite only discord/slack or something @[email protected]?
I’ve been working in devops for 4 years now, but with mostly kubernetes and AWS, but I’d like to throw some ideas and just ask some more specific questions about the infrastructure. Like I’m curious why autoscaling the web servers and moving the database server to a dedicated instance is not the current configuration.
