Copyright has always been a stupid law in the digital age. Copying is an essential part of many processes. The focus on individual copies has been nonsense for decades when the real focus even for those short term licenses (and I agree with you there) should be who is allowed to use the content and for what purpose (e.g. public showing to large crowds might be more expensive than common friend or family groups at home). Also, pretty much anything about copy protection is complete nonsense in the current laws.

We also desperately need to prevent companies from using that monopoly to prevent older works from being available by having the copyright and not publishing the work anymore since this is killing our cultural history.

Honestly, if they all stopped trying to get more money or power at the point where they have all the women and luxuries they could ever want it would be a vast improvement over the status quo at this point.

They all operate under the same laws in any given area. And neither respect your privacy if not forced by laws that are actually enforced.

Who says that they would argue that they are not harmful anywhere else? Remember, the bible used to be only read by priests in Latin and interpreted to the masses and many governments would love to have less transparency as you can see in their opposition to freedom of information type initiatives.

If they addressed the general problem it would also affect US social media platforms and they want to continue doing that when American companies do it.

Yeah, they would just say that those public domain works or open source repositories teach minors undesirable knowledge of some sort or compete with commercial software vendors and/or entertainment providers.

From what I recall high-speed USB was USB 2.0, mostly that is used today for stuff like mice or keyboards where speed isn’t really all that relevant.

This will not kill Wordpress outright but it might very well significantly factor into the decision of every future person deciding if they should write a plugin to support Wordpress or some alternative CMS or if they should host a Wordpress instance or something else, especially companies offering commercial hosting.

It might even lead to a project or two that will eventually replace Wordpress in its dominant position.

The programs don’t really understand Chinese either. They are just filled with an understanding that is provided to them up-front. I mean as in they do not derive that understanding from something they perceive where there was no understanding before, they don’t draw conclusions, don’t understand words from context,… the way an intelligent being would learn a language.

Maybe, but more importantly there are no people or organizations so good that everything they do is good by association nor any people or organizations so bad that everything they do is bad by association.

Honestly, when judging the actions of large organization such as governments it is best not to rely on simplistic “good guy”/ “bad guy” narratives. It might be best to judge each action on its own merit since it might be entirely different parts of the organization performing each action or making each statement.

Hell, the whole “good guy”/“bad guy” thing barely works on individuals.

Well, as far as I know it nobody has done that yet and current LLMs seem to focus more on general applications than on being efficient for specialized use cases like this.

Mainly because most social media isn’t really very well made for the purpose of making sure you have seen every post (anything with upvotes/downvotes) or limit the content of a post (microblog-style social media, video/image focused social media).

You can literally store all preferences in cookies without a problem with EU legislation.

I am not even necessarily talking about relevant/spam. Some content might just naturally lose out because e.g. an interesting mathematical proof has less mass appeal than a cute cat picture even though the former might be higher quality and effort.
