I think it may be google account settings, which are not android I’m aware. Though i recall phone settings becoming default whenever a settings menu was overhauled instead of something reflecting the previous selection.

There used to be tons of customization options which have been removed/limited under the guise of “personalization”. For example you used to be able to do things like choose system colors that weren’t from a selection of 5 pastel themes. For some reason Google believes that pastels and pastels alone accurately reflect the “personality” of every user and that users wasn’t their “personality” reflected.

There’s a ton of settings that have been removed over the years, volume button behavior changed, various privacy settings reset to default with random updates, privacy settings removed…

It’s still fairly functional but if it weren’t for certain apps i need i would be trying out graphene or whatever.

Interesting, is that not info people have voluntarily input? It looks like 1881.no which AFAIK is like old school yellow pages where you put your info in and it’s combined with publicly available things like the business register.

There’s also a lot of tracking of who is accessing personal info. Most often you need to provide your own identity to look something up like property or vehicle owners if it’s not given freely by the individual on a public site.

Think about it for a few days, once you’re over the initial emotional reaction. Be critical of your own response and contemplate the motivation for the statement

- is it out of care for you or manipulation

- Is it honest or malicious? 

- Are they expressing a need?

I think the problem with the original statement is the absolute “never” which i defaulted to taking as a generality when interacting with impersonal third parties. This was an unreasonable assumption in my part.

Fir example, I’m going to lie to Facebook and Google. Period. But never to friends and SOs, and rarely to individual humans outside of survival in threatening circumstances.

Even in court you have to use some judgment to determine what the whole truth is, under what context, and to the extend of your memory or a reasonable expectation of enforcement of the idea.

But as a generality, omitting information on socials, whatever registration form, etc… In everyday life is a reasonable practice for preserving privacy.

I use SW and Fusion daily for work and i think FreeCAD is at last comparable. Definitely as stable if not more reliable. Simulation is well featured. The interface is slightly clunkier but it’s being improved rapidly. Even few years ago it wasn’t usable for me but now i can comfortable make parts in it.

They’re not even going to profit so much off the ads as they will having a new way to distribute them. Even then its, “line go up this quarter”, not “what if sales go down due to this?”. They’ll license it out to every offer company who needs it for line go up.
