I’m as skeptical that an actual bullet grazed his ear as the next guy (my money’s on shrapnel of some kind), but he clearly reacts and reaches up to his ear before the SS does their thing so it can’t be from the huddle

This is something I think about from time to time and essentially get nowhere.
I try and live-capture and release bugs from my house (the only things I actively kill in this regard is mosquitos).I also hunt/fish.
If I saw a deer trapped on a frozen lake I’d go out and rescue it, yet I’d shoot that same deer in a different place under a different context. It’s not really consistent, except in intentionality I suppose.
I do place a higher value on the life of animals that are more “intelligent” (in a way that feels more human) compared to other animals. For example, I’m not upset at all when I use hand sanitizer and presumably wipe out a whole swath of life, but I’m sad if a bird hits a window and dies. Part of that is the intentionality again maybe? The bacteria “had” to die, and the bird didn’t; I’d feel less bad about the bird if I saw a natural predator take it down but it’s still more upsetting than even unintentionally killing an insect.
This is my first exposure to this idea and it’s quite compelling. Couple that with the perceived tone being argumentative instead of inquisitive or ignorant and that’s a recipe for disaster.
The fact the algorithms only care about engagement, positive or negative, means rage bait takes over too so that doesn’t help the perception that a question is actually an attack.

Thought experiment:
Put them in a small sealed room with airflow you control. Using a randomly generated number to pick the start time (within some maximum that’s deemed appropriate), you then throttle up the nitrogen and throttle down the oxygen.
The time spent in the room would still be pretty terrifying so I doubt it’d be much better than the mask… Maybe the room is their cell and it’s a randomly chosen day within an execution “week” where you make sure they’re asleep first?
Probably best just to not kill people of course, but if you’re gonna do it, do it the most humane way possible.
My understanding is that we can’t detect oxygen deprivation, but we can detect CO² buildup which is the idea behind nitrogen asphyxiation. Wouldn’t regular suffocation (like, something obstructing your airflow) be quite agonizing then in comparison due to CO² buildup?
Nitrogen asphyxiation should be effective and painless, but not if the person fights it. Which means it’ll be hard to use as an execution method (unless you surprise them with it somehow)

I kind of agree with the article; something about those PS1 graphics implies more of a crunchy texture that’s lost in the remastered models. Now it looks like a cuter more palatable version, like if it was Kingdom Hearts.
