I have. So far in all the cheapo drives, I’ve all gotten drives that easily max out SATA so I haven’t been burned yet. And they’re all in machines that if the controller goes belly up and the drive dies, I really don’t care, so longevity is not much of a concern either.
Even the really shit drives still have random access times that beat the pants off spinning rust. So it’s a net positive either way.
Some of the really cheap stuff could have similar read and write speeds as a mechanical drive. Make sure you really do your research on it.
