Save your Lemmy homepage as a shortcut on your Home Screen, move your Reddit app and replace it with your Lemmy shortcut.

I just opened Reddit 5x today and had to figure out how to train myself not to use it. This seemed to help me, I hope it helps others too.

Stay strong brothers and sisters. Remember, the more we post, the better it gets.

Just switch to Jerboa. Yes, it’s a bit janky, but endure. It’s well worth it. Edit: forgot to write, a place where Jerboa icon is is the place where Infinity stood for 4 years. Same phone, yeah.

I wish, but I’m on iOS and the equivalent, Mlem, is straight alpha jank. I actually turned the spot Apollo used to be in, into a folder containing both the web shortcut, Mlem and also a shortcut to Lemmy Community Browser and use all three for different things for now due to feature disparity

Just use your web browser on mobile. It works pretty damn well. Eventually we’ll get an Apollo-level equivalent, but the web browser works SOOOOOO much better on Lemmy as compared to reddit. The responsiveness and themes work great.

I’m working on a iOS client that’s similar to Apollo, with the swiping upvote (my favorite feature lol). So if in a few days you want an alpha invite I can send it to you. It’s already at a point where it’s on par with Mlem but I’d like to spend a few days fine tuning a few things to get it to a place I would daily drive it.

Ooh what is Lemmy Community Browser?

Im on iOS. I have the beta mlem app. I mainly just use safari. The auto scrolling feed is annoying me. Is there a way to disable that?

I have to say, I kind of like that Android has a better app than iOS for once (albeit barely).

What do you mean for once? Especially in the FOSS space iOS is woefully underrepresented. Although I suppose that makes sense given the walled garden, closed source approach of apple

This. Just delete the reddit app entirely. Cut the head off, and start anew.

Leave it in the past. 🙏

I would but there’s a few things I need to keep it for, like art commissions. But I’m staying on Lemmy the interactions are so much better. Hopefully we get a bunch of community migrations so I can get rid of Reddit completely.

It’s definitely been a very interesting situation, in that it’s made many of us take a long hard look at what we are with concern to reddit… addicted. I expect some will rail against that classification but make no mistake, these apps / sites are designed to be addictive (iirc they call it ‘stickiness’).

As well as relentless scrolling throughout the day, I found I was wasting hours feeding into my depression doomscrolling before even getting out of bed. Regardless of what happens next, I’m not installing the reddit app or reinstalling my 3rd party choice (Infinity). Surprise, I’m now getting up much more quickly and starting the day in a better frame of mind.

I wonder how many users they’ve permanently lost through this debacle?

It’s just that I have to scroll so far to get new content. And I keep seeing old content that are two days old that stays on the top… I really to new stuff to crawl up!😅

Just switched my RIF app to Jerboa and put it where my RIF app used to be.

It’s difficult searching for things in the internet for opinions without putting ‘reddit’ at the end of it though!

It most certainly is difficult. <Search Query> site:reddit.com is seriously helpful and I can’t see myself doing searches without it.

Given how instances and communities work, I wonder how will we do searches in the future as lemmy gets more popular.

Once the internet was bunches of helpful info on weird places. Then search engines helped fix that… hopefully we’ll have an equivalent to find info on Lemmy soon

Tbh, rif was only renamed to rif is fun because they were no longer allowed to use Reddit is fun.

So I wouldn’t mind if it was released Lemmy is Fun, but then idk what the holders of the “Lemmy” trademark’s policy on using the name.

I did the same. Sync can live in the depths of my app drawer for a while. Muscle memory just got me to write my first comment here. 🙂

The fact Reddit dominates the useful results of so many searches is a problem. That won’t work as well with Lemmy because good posts live on different instances.

Now I understand what smokers mean when they say “muscle memory” makes their fingers automatically go for the cigarette in the pack.

My fingers have been automatically going to the space where Apollo / RIF was.

I deleted Apollo when the blackout started and haven’t used Reddit since. But I’m in med school and should be getting results of step 1 tomorrow 😞 normally I’d be doomscrolling r/step1 and there doesn’t seem to be an equivalent yet. So for anyone reading this: 😭

I’m doing exactly what you suggested…but man it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I am both figuring this out and completely confused. But I was that way on Reddit years ago.

Yup, also browse “All” communities (not local/Subscribed) by “Hot” for an equivelance to the Reddit homepage and to discover other communities.

I will admit, browsing all communities felt like browsing /r/all before they restricted what could go up there.

It was actually kinda refreshing and nostagic seeing the occasional post from the lemmynsfw instance.

I ended up uninstalling reddit, because I opened it too much. Then, as you said, I moved the lemmy icon to where reddit used to be.
