Kody Adams, already facing charges, allegedly told Oklahoma police he had merely been ‘borrowing’ vehicle
An Oklahoma man who could not find a ride to a criminal court hearing on accusations that he had stolen a car worsened his legal peril by stealing an ambulance service’s truck and driving himself to the courthouse, authorities allege.
The bizarre case centers on Kody Adams, who was recently at a gasoline station in the community of Stillwater asking passersby whether they would drive him to Pawnee – about 30 minutes away – so that he could attend a court hearing there, as the Oklahoma highway patrol tells it.
Adams was due in court on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle, the state highway patrol said in a Facebook post dated 27 September. And when no one could bring him, he commandeered an ambulance service supervisor’s pickup that had been left running as well as unattended, and Adams drove it to Pawnee, the highway patrol’s Preston Cox told the Oklahoma news outlet KOCO.
This is what I want to see in the news. Not all this war and strife and everyone getting screwed by oligarchs.
needing to do crime to get to your court date about doing crime seems like it would fall under ‘getting screwed by oligarchs’ to me
Tbf I don’t think this person needed to steal an ambulance to attend his court date. They schedule those months in advance, he had time to figure out a 30 minute trip. I hope no one died because an ambulance was suddenly missing
it wasn’t an ambulance, it was a supervisor’s pickup truck and unless your solution to this problem was that he walk there multiple days before then you’re making assumptions here
Fair point on the vehicle, my mistake.
On your second point, it’s not outlandish for me to suggest he find a way to get to court without stealing a vehicle. Public transit, get a ride from a friend, Uber, bicycle are all options. But, yes, if all of those were impossible he could walk. It would not take multiple days to walk a 30 minute drive, but it would probably be an 8 hour walk. Still a better option than stealing a car.
Sure and that works great right up until you’re supposed to leave for the 30 minute drive and your ride never shows up, and you don’t have the money for an Uber.
So you steal a car? That’s how you would handle that problem?
“Double indemnity!”
Landscape, portrait, just pick one orientation guys.
Going to Pawnee too, come on!
