Nintendo was super competent with the Switch, their kernel is actually ridiculously secure. I’m pretty sure if Nvidia hadn’t messed up, we would still be scratching our heads with the Switch.

It’s not impossible or even hard to lock down Linux. Just look at Chrome OS, it’s Gentoo based, but with the bootloader locked and root access removed, it is pretty much immutable.
And Chromebooks just use off the shelf parts.
USB C cables are more fragile, but it’s designed that way so the ports are more durable. And I think having more durable ports is the right call.
This has made my Lemmy experience considerably better
If only they offered a solderless version.
The new engine is finally out for PC, nice. That means better performance in endgame maps.
Nah, not really. House has 2 episodes where the writers invented diseases (only 2 on the entire run is very respectable though), but more than that, it’s not realistic to have 4 docs working on one case all week. And the cases are very unrealistic in the sense that a lot are not mysteries. If you’re an MD/DO, you can see some of the diagnoses coming a mile away while House and his team pretend it’s a super rare thing. I particularly remember one of the Lyme disease episodes where I got the diagnosis almost immediately, and I was still on med school.
On the other hand, Scrubs gets the lifestyle of an intern right. Except there’s a lot less sex in real life lol.
You can do that, but be aware, upscaling with FSR takes a performance hit. It’s not a big one but can make the difference between stable and unstable 30FPS.
Yup. Standard 2230 M.2
In most it doesn’t matter, but in some newer games like Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, the difference is massive.
Can you point me to a $350 laptop with similar specs? And the form factor is the whole selling point, duh.
Yes, but shader caches always go to the internal memory, so that will fill up even if the games themselves are installed to the SD card.
I got the 64GB and swapped the SSD for a bigger one. It was painless and now I have 1TB of internal memory for less than the price of the 256GB model.
Unless you’re Nintendo, they have their cake and eat it too.

It’s not FOSS either, that’s why the FOSS people don’t mention it.
I could never play Guild Wars 2 without them either, and it’s one of my most played games. One of the reasons I got a Deck too.
There’s a lot they could have done, locking down Linux isn’t that hard. Just look at Chrome OS, it’s based on Gentoo, yet it’s locked down completely. All they had.to do is lock the BIOS, enable secure boot and disable root access, and then it’s pretty much a locked system.
