There is literally zero evidence for that. In armed insurrections around the world where firearms are supposedly illegal for civilians to hold, rebels have never had trouble getting a hold of guns.

Beyond your point, I always felt that the Second Amendment, ostensibly for the purpose of overthrowing the government, is completely redundant. That is to say, if you’re plotting to overthrow the government by force of arms, whether your firearm is constitutionally protected is kind of moot by that point. Ergo, the 2A should have no relevance with regards to holding government tyranny in check.

During the 15 or so years when technically Frodo possessed the ring he never used it. The first time he put it on was in Bree. I doubt he was much affected by it during those years.

The only thing I did not like about casting Elijah Wood (and don’t get me wrong I love him as Frodo) is that he was a bit too young for the role. Frodo is supposed to be in his fifties when he sets out from the Shire. Sam and Merry are about the same age but are more than 10 years younger than Frodo. In age Martin Freeman would have been better but by temperament Elijah was the better Frodo. Bilbo is more of a “fuck it, let’s do this” kind of guy whereas Frodo is much more deliberate and cautious. Martin Freeman was also an amazing choice for Bilbo.

Based on replies to this post it’s a legit unpopular opinion lol. I agree with you but for different reasons maybe. “Expressing” one’s self via fashion choices is pretty environmentally damaging as practiced in most modern westernized societies, especially practices like fast fashion. I think there are lots of ways to express oneself without having to a constantly changing wardrobe. Of course reducing wardrobe in and of itself will not save the environment but it’s one step among many.

This is a gun thread. But if you’re implying that taxing gas has not stopped Americans from driving big ass trucks, realize that the USA does not nearly tax gas as much as other modern nations and in fact we subsidize it. In most other countries few people drive big ass trucks precisely because it’s so expensive.

There was a recent story on NPR that addressed this. I can’t find it now but basically it said that all these studies in isolation have issues but now there appears to be a trend that transcends national boundaries and cultures.
